Embattled Swamp Leader Murrell Smith Takes More Losses

One can recall many instances of bad behavior from South Carolina Speaker Murrell Smith both during and after the fight for Constitutional Carry.

Let’s not forget that Murrell Smith and his band of RINOs…

  • Had to be forced to even hold a vote on Constitutional Carry,
  • Attempted to coerce the most pro-gun Reps in the House to sign a “Loyalty Pledge” and promise to never support/endorse/campaign for any primary challengers of his swamp caucus hell-bent on ignoring or watering down our 2A rights,
  • Tried to bully pro-gun reps into backing down from their actions to clean up Constitutional Carry,
  • Attempted to take credit for cleaning up Constitutional Carry with legislative procedural gimmicks after a plethora of gun groups forced him to allow the gun control to be removed from the bill,
  • Spent 3 to 4 MILLION dollars in the next primary trying to smear the reputations of the most pro-gun reps who forced his hand to clean up the bill,
  • Failed to remove even one of those pro-gun reps and had his own anti-gun Assistant Majority Leader, Jay West, removed from office during that same primary,
  • And when faced with having to assign leadership roles to committees, Smith passed over his pro-gun opponents and for the first time since South Carolina turned red, appointed numerous anti-gun Democrats to chair powerful committees in Columbia.

The list of L’s for the swamp leader is increasingly hard to ignore for members in his caucus and after another attempt to pass off a tax increase scheme as a “flat tax”, the Speaker’s leadership is being questioned from every angle.

Now, Smith, after attempting to wipe the egg from his face for blazing a warpath against the SC Freedom Caucus, is making a new target out of pro-gun Rep. and leader of the SC Family Caucus, John McCravy.

Recent texts and emails blasted McCravy’s district this past week accusing McCravy for “opposing conservatives”, but refrained from offering any proof or roll call votes as evidence.

Speaker Smith’s belligerent behavior towards pro-gun Representatives in Columbia has underlined the notion that should a tragedy occur, Smith will undoubtedly rush to the far-left to make a deal with Democrats while slandering pro-gun lawmakers who get in his way.

For instance, Palmetto Gun Rights worked with Rep. Thomas Beach to file a bill to BAN “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation in South Carolina, yet Speaker Smith has refused to allow a vote on this pro-gun issue.

It’s obvious Smith would rather wait for a more opportune time to have the discussion about whether or not “Red Flag” should pass during a time of tragedy and loss where he can more easily politicize the issue.(Which P.S. you should add your name demanding the SC legislature pass this pro-gun bill to BAN “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation in S.C.)

However, voters should not only ask themselves how their elected officials voted on Constitutional Carry and other gun-related issues but also who voted for this blatant abuse of power being utilized by Speaker Smith?

Fortunately, we have that answer as a public recorded vote was taken earlier this year when Rep. Bill Chumley challenged Smith for Speakership where every member of the House Republican Caucus voted for Smith, with only 17 members of the House Freedom Caucus voting for Chumley. This emphasizes the great disconnect between the Columbia swamp and South Carolina voters that is in dire need of correction.

Palmetto Gun Rights will continue to update you on the Speaker’s tail spin of a legacy and all Second Amendment issues taking place in the State House.
